How To Drive in Los Angeles: Pedestrian Edition

2 min read

You know how no one walks in L.A.? It’s kind of a known thing about this city. There’s even a song about it. However, in the recent years that has been changing, changing a lot.

These days I see people walking all over the place. I talk to people that don’t even own cars, which is weird because when I moved here not having a car meant you weren’t a real person. If you didn’t own a car we would say… wait, we didn’t say anything, because everyone had a car. My friends talked shit to me because I walked to the grocery store and back (5 blocks round trip). It was pretty sad. Now though, the new subways, Uber, and Lyft have changed the way people move throughout the city.

It’s strange watching cars slowly move to the back of people’s minds in a city that’s over 500 square miles, but it’s cool. The car culture here is fun and interesting, but it’s the cause of our horrible air and over crowded roads. Getting around this city is one of the biggest pains in the ass you will ever experience. If you stay in Hollywood and want to visit the beach it’s probably going to take an hour to get there, depending on the time of day you head out. Then, once you’ve made it to your location, you’re going to spend far too long searching for a parking spot. Long story short, driving in a pain in the ass so ditching your car makes a lot of sense.

Although, it’s only because of all these pedestrians that I was able to make this video! I guess there’s a bright side to everything, right? It makes perfect sense that the bad drivers of Los Angeles would also be terrible pedestrians. Walking against lights, using the cover of darkness to hide as they slowly walk across the street, or just being plain ol’ weird. They always add another level of excitement to the roads. It’s great fun. Just watch!
